PROPERTY INFORMATION
This magnificent, grand home resides on one of the most prestigious, quiet, tree lined street in the Annex. Built in 1909 and originally referred to as the C.D. Scott House, this gorgeous Tudor Style home was designed by Chadwick and Beckett Architects, is constructed with Stone, Stucco & Wood and occupies one of the largest lots in the Annex - an incredible 80 x 152!
William Chadwick, the lead architect for this home, trained under Richard Windeyer (1831-1900), a British architect who practised in Montreal, Toronto and New York. Samuel Beckett graduated from Cornell University School of Architect and in 1893 he and Chadwick formed a partnership. Together, their work consisted of residential, commercial, institutions and ecclesiastical projects. Some of their residential projects can still be found in the Annex, Forest Hill and Rosedale. Most notable amongst their commercial projects were the restoration of Osgoode Hall and the Albany Club. Other projects on historical buildings of interest include the Bank of Toronto building at Queen West and Spadina, as well as the Royal Bank building at Bloor & Dovercourt. These stand the test of time and are a testament to their creative brilliance.
The name and area of “the Annex” can be traced back to the early 1880’s when merchant and local speculator Simeon Janes used “Toronto Annexed” for his elite residential developments. This large plot of land was purchased and then built on as a grand residence and has been home to only 3 Resident owners over the years. Passed from the original owner, C.D. Scott to Frances Christie Smith who owned the home until her death in 1958. However, her estate retained the property in the family, and from 1958-1989 the residence was divided into several units and family members continued to enjoy this grand ancestral home.
One of the largest properties in the neighbourhood, with over 8,000 square feet of living space, this home and incredible estate property are ready to be passed on to a new owner. This is a rare – once in a lifetime – opportunity to capture a piece of Toronto’s history and an incredible plot of land in the centre of the city on one of the most desired and coveted streets in the Annex. 101 Admiral is a parcel of land comprised of 3 individual lots and the opportunities for this property & home are endless.
