Ryan was born and raised in a small community in Nova Scotia where a mile was short and the work was long. He was the product of a loving family and healthy lifestyle. He and his brother were always active, whether in organized sport or unorganized play. His competitiveness allowed him to excel in the sports of his choice - skiing in the winter and baseball in the summer. His parents' encouragement in these sports taught him honesty through fair play and showed him some of the world through travel.
After high school, Ryan successfully graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor in Kinesiology. During those four years, he travelled on a student exchange to England, started coaching the local ski team and he finished off with a work exchange to New Zealand in 1996.
After graduating, Ryan continued to coach ski racing. He became head coach of the local ski racing club and worked another 3 years there. During this stint, he hired an assistant coach that would change his life forever…. Andrea Martin.
In 1999, Ryan and Andrea moved west to the Comox Valley where Ryan was hired as a coach with the local FIS level ski racers and Andrea quickly found work as a French Immersion teacher. In 2003, they bought their first house and got married. In 2010, their daughter Danica was born and in 2012, their son Bentley was born - both guiding Ryan and Andrea into parenthood with snuggles and smiles.
In 2005, after 6 successful winters of ski race coaching at Mount Washington, Ryan decided it was time for a change. He entered the world of real estate. Encouraged by the culture at RE/MAX, Ryan decided this company would be the best fit for the start of his career and set up office in the Comox branch... and has been there ever since.
Over the years, Ryan has been honored with awards such as the REMAX Chairman’s Club (yearly), REMAX Lifetime Achievement, REMAX Hall of Fame and he has frequented the top 100 at REMAX Western Canada. He has been a proud supporter of Y.A.N.A., KidSport Comox Valley, the North Vancouver Island Chapter of the MS Society and he sponsors multiple sports and associations. In 2021 he started, and still participates in - a Community Care program called "24to12" where he donates 24 donations of $500 each over one year, equalling $12,000.
Since 2005 Ryan has been involved with over 1000 transactions with focus being primarily on residential real estate in the Comox Valley. He has worked with seniors, families, relocations, investors and recreationalists - providing plenty of variations in work experiences.
