Jacque moved to Beaver Island in 1979 and began a 26 year teaching career at the Beaver Island Community School. She married her husband, Mark, a native islander in 1980. Son, Daniel, joined the family in 1993. After retiring from the school in 2005, Jacque decided to try her hand at Real Estate. She joined the VPN-Beaver Island office that fall and became really excited about her new career in Real Estate. Always active in the community, Jacque is currently secretary of the Preservation Association of Beaver Island. PABI continues its efforts to build a community center, a 12-year long project now starting construction. She is also involved with the Holy Cross Church efforts to restore the 15 stained glass windows in the Church, and advises the Catholic Youth Group. In the past she has been involved with Boy and Cub Scouting, The Civic Association, was editor of the Beaver Beacon, and co-founder of the Northern Islander, both local island newspapers. Jacque enjoys outdoor activities. In the summer months, she leads kayaking eco-tours on the island?s inland lakes. She is also the local Loon Ranger, keeping track of the local population of Common Loons. During the winter, she enjoys dog-sledding with her five huskies around the island, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. When not outside, she can be found reading, sewing, painting with watercolors or playing music on her century old mandolin.
