Luxury real estate is increasingly defined by value and balance, and this quarter’s top 10 markets show where buyers are most active across the U.S. in Q1 2026.
Valued for having a luxury entry point well below the national average of $1.19 million, Detroit, Michigan ranked first for the most active luxury home market. In Detroit buyers have luxury home options below $700,000, allowing high-end buyers strong purchasing power and creating steady demand.
St. Louis follows in second place, offering an even lower luxury entry point of $628,000. Its combination of affordability, livability, and economic stability keeps high-end homes moving faster than the national average. San Diego’s luxury home market experienced one of the biggest changes in rank, moving to third, as price changes lead to increased competition, even with over 40% of listings priced above $1 million.
Salt Lake City ranked fourth as demand remains steady for luxury homes, due to economic resilience and livability, while Santa Barbara takes the fifth spot on the list of most active luxury homes markets. Even with its high entry price point of $9,808,500, scarcity, amenities, and lifestyle keep demand resilient.
The luxury home markets that make up the next five spots reflect a mix of steady performers and rising destinations. Charlottesville and Minneapolis remain fundamentally strong, Portland, Maine continues to attract lifestyle-driven buyers, Bridgeport benefits from its proximity to New York City, and Prescott posted one of the largest jumps, highlighting a trend toward smaller, lifestyle-oriented metros that deliver perceived value in the luxury segment.
Overall, today’s luxury buyers are prioritizing markets that combine affordability, livability, and price discipline, favoring long-term stability over speculative growth.
